What’s Chain of Custody?

Chain of custody is the unbroken path which takes products from the forest to the consumer. Customers are increasingly seeking evidence of environmentally sound business practices and demand reassurance and proof that wood used comes from sustainably managed sources.

Chain of custody certification provides evidence that the certified product originates from certified well-managed forests and confirms that these products are not mixed with products from uncertified forests at any point in the supply chain.
A Chain of custody system needs to identify critical control points in your processes where there is a possibility for mixing certified and uncertified material and put in place controls to ensure that mixing does not occur.

A Chain of custody system can be fully integrated with existing quality and/or environmental management systems. There are two assessment schemes available FSC Chain of Custody Assessment or PEFC Chain of Custody Assessment

What’s FSC?

FSC stands for Forest Stewardship Council. FSC is an international not-for-profit membership-based organization that brings people together to find solutions to the problems created by bad forestry practices and to reward good forest management. For more details visit www.fsc.org

What’s PEFC?

PEFC stands for Programme for Enforcement of Forest Certification schemes. It is an independent, non-profit, non-governmental organisation founded in 1999. It provides an assurance to purchasers of wood and paper products that they are promoting sustainable management of forests. For more details visit www.pefc.org

We were highly recommended Cheryl from a close friend whom had been through the same process.

We started working with her at the end of February 2014, when she provided us with a very in-depth two-day internal audit. During this initial visit, Cheryl identified that the certification body we had been progressing with were not UKAS accredited, with her extensive knowledge and contacts within the industry Cheryl was able to put us in touch with a certification company that were UKAS accredited, and could offer us a auditor experienced in our industry.

Cheryl was extremely pro-active, she provided us with exceptional support and guidance, with regard to processes, forms, legislation and environmental training, and we received our certifications to ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001 at the beginning of June!

We would highly recommend Cheryl’s consultancy service. We look forward to continuing to work with Cheryl and count ourselves lucky to have her as our consultant!"
